| Aung Kyaw Tun was born in 1969 in Nyaunglebin and studied with the masters U Min Thu, Kyaw Kyaw Win and U Zaw Min. He has participated in several art exhibitions in Burma and have also illustrated magazines etc to make a living. He took part in the Beppu Asia Biennale, Japan in 2005. His latest series reflect on the Nat Spirits - a group of 37 spirits who are worshiped in Burma - and often labeled a pre-Buddhist cult. It is interesting how devotees of the Spirits have integrated Nat worship into their practice of Buddhism. The Spirits are believed to have turned into devoted Buddhists as well, having given up their previous violent life style, such as sending their pet tigers to gobble up defectors! |
