aseanARToday
Thavibu Gallery organized jointly with the ASEAN Art Expo the art exhibition entitled aseanARToday Thailand & Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar/Burma in Bangkok 4 – 28 June 2002. ASEAN Art Expo is an organization established to promote ASEAN art and artists and has been endorsed by the ASEAN Secretariat. The exhibition in Thailand is one of several national shows which are held prior to the international exhibition which will take place at the National Art Gallery in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia 19 October – 24 November 2002. Dr. Sheldon Shaeffer, Director of UNESCO, Bangkok delivered the keynote speech at the opening reception. At the National Art Gallery, around eighty leading artists from the ASEAN countries will showcase their works. The show provides an opportunity to sample the diversity and view some of the best visual art produced in South-East Asia today. An art symposium for art professionals as well as for other persons with interest in visual Asian arts, is scheduled to take place for three days to coincide with the opening of the exhibition. To inquire about the art symposium or the regional exhibition in Kuala Lumpur, kindly send an e-mail to Jaffee Yee Yeow-fei of ASEAN Art Expo. The organizers in Malaysia have recently decided not to include all ten ASEAN countries in the show, hence works from Cambodia, Laos and Burma will not take part.
Some of the paintings displayed below are scheduled to be exhibited in Thailand as well as at the National Art Gallery, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. They are available for purchase from Thavibu Gallery.
