Edvard Sasun
Edvard Sasun is an Armenian painter who currently resides
in Thailand. He was born in 1955 in Armenia and was first educated as a
mathematician at the Yerevan State University of Armenia. However,
following his strong conviction of being an artist, he was later accepted at the
Academy in St. Petersburg (Leningrad at that time). It was very hard to
pursue a second line of education in the Soviet Union, though Sasun worked hard
and his talent was recognized. He successfully graduated from the
prestigious Academy in 1987 after eight years of professional art training, most
of the time under professor Boris Ugarov. Edvard Sasun draws inspiration
from people's personalities, landscapes and objects around us. He masters
the classical style as few others, and his portraits may be seen as the pinnacle
of his art. In his 'still life' paintings every object has a role to play,
composition is carefully thought out, and the pictures come to life. Sasun
has exhibited several time in the USSR, taken part in the Europ'ART 2000 in
Geneva and also held a solo show at the National Gallery in Thailand (1999).
