Luong Xuan Doan

Luong Xuan Doan was born in 1952 in Hanoi and graduated from the Hanoi Fine Arts University in 1980.  He creates his works of abstract or semi-abstract motifs influenced by life in Vietnam.  His paintings seem to have a  minimalist approach, where a few brushstrokes can carry a lot of meaning.  Luong Xuan Doan’s preferred medium is Chinese ink on paper, though he also sometimes executes paintings with colourful brushstrokes on handmade (Dó) paper.  Even though his production is very limited, Doan has participated in exhibitions in USSR (1986), Finland (1995), USA (1997), Taiwan (1999, 2000), Japan (1999) and South Korea (2000), as well as in Vietnam, and his works are found in the collections of the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum and the National Art Gallery of Malaysia.
